In 2003, Activision launched a series of shooter games that would not be a success story. She set up various sales records and for many years only the next “Call of Duty” seemed to be able to beat the old record. Probably the most important reason for this success is the slope to authentic battlefield atmosphere paired with various scripted sequences, which at that time as today provide for a gripping Mittenrinerlebnis. In the beginning, the Second World War served as a setting. Since 2009, however, the future has continued. In 2017 “Call of Duty” returns to the European slaughterers of the Second World War. For this reason we would like to look back on all the iterations of the core series.

In the first “Call of Duty”, you fight in changing roles on the part of the US Army, the Red Army and the Royal Airforce, a concept which has also been achieved in a similar form in many of the sequels. You will fight during Operation Overlord in France, for example, and you will enter historic battlefields like Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandy. In the British campaign, she is again responsible for the sinking of the German battleship Tirpitz. The Russian campaign starts with the battle for Stalingrad. In the end, you will advance with the Red Army to Berlin to conquer the Reichstag.
Autoheal did not exist in the first “Call of Duty”. You will be able to fill your hit points with Medikits. In some places in the game, enemy waves spell endlessly. It is there, therefore, to reach the target point and not to cut down all enemy waves. With “United Offensive” appeared a little less than a year after the release of the main game still an extension on Disc. The extension was not developed by Infinity Ward, but by Gray Matter Interactive. The basic game later appeared for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
