Ubisoft Montreal Cancels a Secret Project Three Years in the Making

It looks like an unannounced game has been discontinued at Ubisoft Montreal that has been in development for quite a long time.

Ubisoft programmer Louis de Carufel revealed on Twitter that Ubisoft Montreal was developing a secret game that was discontinued after at least three years. Unfortunately, he didn’t say what it was and his tweets were deleted.

I just found out that the project I’ve been working on for the past three years has been discontinued. This is hard news because I’ve been working with all of these people for around seven years now, in which we have been both watchdogs and Watch Dogs 2, said Louis de Carufel.

Fortunately, nobody has to lose their job because of that. The staff will be distributed to other projects at Ubisoft Montreal. Incidentally, over 200 people worked on the title.

So it was not a small project. According to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, it was a new brand and it should be a Destiny style game, including Games-as-a-Service.
